There are too many beautiful people in this world. And everyone wants to be a model. With growing legions of fashion fans from the rise of fashion blogs, reality tv shows and a culture that bears an insatiable appetite for overnight fame, today’s Jersey Shore generation is looking for a way out of the grind and convinced that their moment has arrived to be discovered.
The thing is that 95% of the aspiring models out there have big dreams but have no idea how to channel it. Their presentation is all wrong. Their look is all wrong. They are all wrong. To scrupulously quote the powerful words of this elephantine Ghetto Mama who squalled to me with her finger in the air as I mistakenly cut her off for a taxi on Broadway and 22nd street “Aw hell no.”
I started this website for models and aspiring models after catching glimpses of so many that want to be better, just like my own talent wants to be better. Ive found in my many years of experience that while most all models want to be famous and successful, what they really want most of all is to be guided, so they can say at the end success or not that they got their chance and gave it their best shot. And we all need teachers don’t we. There are great agents out there but many don’t actually take the time to teach their talent how to be great.
I will teach you how to be a better model. I will post things about your questions from my perspective in “Ask an Agent”. I will tell you if you can model or not in “The Model Bouncer.” And Ill talk to you about the challenges that I face everyday in the business as an Agent. But Im afraid that this isn’t a website for all fairytale endings. Have your barf bag and your Kleenex ready because I will tell you the truth. This business is about rejection and criticism and I am very much part of that process. The thing is that I see thousands of kids that think that they’ve got it. And while I appreciate the saying “never give up”, it breaks my heart to see kids spend thousands of dollars and years of investment when I can tell you in a New York minute if you have the potential to make it or not in the high fashion world. I will help some along their path as a model but for others I am also here to do what few have the courage to do and that may be to tell you to not to do it at all. Don’t take it personally because it is not. Im offering a rare bit of straight up honesty in this business of snake oil peddlers that serves you round about answers and sells you services for money. I hope that’s worth something.
But I hope for those that aren’t of the right potential, a few will feel that I saved them in a way and helped them to find the proper course of their life, possibly something else extraordinary in this business like a photographer, stylist or art director, an actor, a “Snookie”, possibly even an agent. I love Morrissey and quote him often so as he says “If it’s not love then it’s the bond that brings us together.”
